Shelter Support (Part-time)

Hope House operates 24 hours per day with help from staff and volunteers. Our mission is helping families and individuals experiencing homelessness achieve sustainable independence.

Position Objective:

Provide consistent shelter coverage every other weekend (Saturday, Sunday) from 8 AM to 5 PM in order to help maintain a safe and secure environment for all guests, staff, and volunteers. This position will consist of a total of 18 hours per weekend worked.

 

While we have overnight shelter support staff, we are searching for someone who may be able to help occasionally with overnight coverage as needed. This overnight position is a sleep position, and those hours are from 8 PM to 8 AM.

Main Position Duties:

  • Check-in with a volunteer at the beginning and end of your shift for any necessary information about our guests.

  • Answer the door and allow guests coming into the building. Let non-guests know they will need to come back during regular business hours.

  • Supervise shelter until volunteer or staff arrives.

  • Ensure guests are following guidelines and document any infractions.

  • Provide supportive listening for and maintain professional boundaries with guests as needed.

  • Turnover and clean guest rooms as needed (following a family moving out) and prepare for new families/households.

  • May read, watch TV quietly, be on a device if you so choose to do so.

  • Manage crisis situations in a safe, effective manner.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Starting Wage: $10 per hour
